Waiouru School is super fortunate to have received funds from the Ruapehu District Council Creative Community Grants Board to bring Mark Glastonbury from Glastonbury Studios, Whanganui up to school every Wednesday to teach dance to our kids.
The kids had their first lesson on Wednesday and absolutely loved it, even though that had to dance with members of the opposite sex (apparently liberal amounts of hand sanitizer post-dancing helps elevate ‘boy germs’ lol I was in tears when I read that on Facebook!). Our goal is that at the end of the term Mark will hold and judge a dance off completion for our students. So save the date whanau, Wednesday 23rd September, it’s going to be better than Dancing With The Stars!!
Here’s a weee sneak peak at the senior classes first session …
For Matariki this year we had a fun family art day with a shared lunch with our mums and dads who were able to pop down during their lunch break. Our classes have been busy creating large pieces of art which we can put up in our shared spaces around the school. Here are a few photos of the construction of our art, I will put up photos of the finished pieces once they are completed.
We had an amazing visit by the senior students from Taihape Area School to show us their Wearable Art Creations. It was a great inspiration for our own students who are in the middle of creating their pieces for our Wearable Arts Show at the end of term three. Thanks Mr McMillan and Mr Yates from bringing your students over.
